Poland Walking & Wildlife Trip 2011

I’m delighted to give you the details of my annual trip to the truly awesome National Parks of Biebrza and Bialowieza, in north-eastern Poland. Dates are March 31 through April 5. 2011.

The itinerary is as follows :

March 31 : Fly Dublin to Warsaw with Aer Lingus and transfer to Biebrza National Park.

April 1 – 3 : Walking and wildlife spotting in Biebrza NP, home to Elk, Red Deer, Beaver, Wolf, Lynx and birds, such as Lesser Spotted Eagle, Crane, Stork, Woodpecker, Owl, Geese, etc. Biebrza (‘beaver’ in Polish) NP is based around the river basin of the same name and is a spectacular area of river marsh and wetland woodlands.

April 3 – 4 : Walking and wildlife spotting in Bialowieza NP, home to Bison, Deer, Wolf, Lynx, various species of Woodpecker and many other fabulous birds. Bialowieza NP is based around the primeval forest of the same name – one of the very last tracts of such beautiful and serene forest in central and eastern Europe.

April 5 : Return to Ireland.

We stay in shared rooms in lovely traditional ‘pensions’. Meals, transport within Poland and full guiding with our wonderful local expert are all included. The flights are not included and should be booked directly with www.aerlingus.com as soon as possible, in order to benefit from the best prices possible. Today, February 15, the return flight with no luggage in the hold, costs approx. Euro 120.

The cost of this great trip with us is Euro 500 per person sharing. If you book your flights soon and bring just cabin luggage, the total cost is around Euro 620. I cannot recommend this trip highly enough. Our local guide is so good, he’s written the guide book to the nature and biodiversity of Biebrza National Park.

Walking is easy, with no hills of any note. This is a great relaxing trip into the vast nature of eastern Europe. See pictures of this trip in previous years, by visiting here.

If you would like to join our small walking group for this excellent trip to Poland next March, please get in touch, via e-mail or phone, and reserve your place.

Spring 2011 Trip to Poland

Walking in Poland - Biebrza NP

Walking in Poland - Biebrza NP

It’s the time of year for me to start planning and organising my wonderful small group nature-based walking trip to far eastern Poland.

Each year, I bring a small group of no more than 10 to see the magnificent National Parks of Biebrza and Bialowieza. Highlights, if we’re lucky, include Bison, Red Deer, Elk, three varieties of Woodpecker, Storks, three types of Eagle, etc. These places are home to Lynx and Wolf, though we’d be unlikely to spot these predators.

We’ll visit the Strictly Protected Area of Bialowieza Forest – the last great strand of European lowland primeval oak forest.

We fly to Warsaw, get a minibus from there, stay in specially selected (by me) accommodation and use the services of a good friend of mine as our guide for the duration of our stay. To say he’s great would be an understatement – he works for the Polish equivalent of our NPWS and wrote the book on Biebrza NP.

If you love the outdoors, you will really find this trip fantastic – that I can promise you !

Get in touch if you’d like to be kept informed of this trip. Truly, it is a great place for walking.
